Part 12: The Less Than Grand Renaming with a second tower experience!
(Kiefer) Goodbye, Ryuga! I'd say that we'll miss you, but we both know that's just a lie. Actually, hrmmm. Hold still, I want to do something terrible.
Author's Note: Sometimes, when a character leave the party, they leave behind a heart. This heart can be used in the reformation process, and basically gives a nice stat boost. Also, I wonder: Does the Heart Extractor take the literal hearts of monsters, or does it take their souls? And for that matter, which is worse?
(Luin) Now we can just go directly back to the ruins without having to go all the way around!
Screw all that! Back to the camp first!
(Boldo) I possess the ability to change their names. How about it? And I can do wagons, too!
Carol seems like a weak name. Rename her to be Radbot!
Sorry, that's too long.
Seriously? It seems like I can give her a longer name...
Nope! 5 characters is the limit!
Even for wagons?
Especially for wagons!
But a wagon is named Kakalon, and that's 7 letters!
An illusion named that! I'm not that great at naming things!
Whatever. Bye.
Um, we found a very handsome man who became our ally.
(Kushalami) Hey, I'm looking forward to that! Two left! Keep looking! I'll be waiting, boys!
Let's mosey on back to that oasis. But first...
In to the tool shop!
Potentially Useful Merchant Kid: It seems fun, traveling with all of your friends! There are three towers in this area too, so you'll have plenty of adventures! If you're headed to a tower, would you take me there too? I'm scared to go alone, but I'd feel better with all of you!
Author's note: Since the caravan is now full, I'm going to start handling the actual recruiting of new characters (since we get a metric crapton, as you'll see). However, I need you guys to set policy! Whole lot of merchants (money and goods for sale!)? Chock-full-of warriors? DPS? Survivability? What kind of party do you want to see? I'll handle the rest (with the occasional plot pickup or definite add-on)! Any new person we can get for the caravan will be marked as potentially useful, so if someone strikes your interest, let me know.
Eh, I'll get back to you later.
Mysterious Shopper: This should be enough. Time to go, huh? Wait for me, Smith! I'll be with you again today! Oh, excuse me! I was preparing to go to the Lighthouse. I'm in a hurry, so...
Gossiping Customer: Machua sure is a strange one. She suddenly became a Tamer. She was devastated when her boyfriend passed away, but why did she grow so fond of monster?
Because monsters are *awesome*.
Gossiping Customer: I don't get it... Oh, oh! I shouldn't be talking about this to travelers! I'm sorry!
No customers ever come, and the inn is so small! I want people to experience my cooking! I want to be a Chef! Is there anyone that can whisk me around the world?
Let me tell you about a caravan that wanders the world, looking for orbs. This caravan has searched out the finest of foods to satisfy the most delicate palates. The streets they travel are paved with tasty ingrendients. This is the Grindavan, and you are welcome to join.
(Ricardo) Sweet! Alright, it's settled! I'll go on the journey with you! I've already decided! And you're okay with that, of course! My name's Ricardo! I'm aiming to become the best Chef in the world. I'll cook great meals for you! Just you wait!
Author's Note: Certainly a lot of these this time, eh? Cooks and Chefs are, to put it simply, the best class. Out of combat, THEY REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF RATIONS YOU EAT, which vastly reduces travel costs and makes things much simpler. In battle. THEY RECOVER MP FOR A MONSTER. Not much (10mp per action for now), but it adds up! Needless to say, we'll be kicking out Nana the Fisher.
Helpful Old Man: The Full Moon Tower stands to the south of the village. Once, it could only be reached by ship, but now you can walk there. When the light of a full moon hits the top... It's said that the Moonshard will be revealed. Speaking of which, it's almost time for a full moon... A while ago, some Merchants headed to the tower.
A Moonshard? That sounds like a beautiful jewel! The Illusion might accept a Moonshard!
Lighthouse Enthusiast: The man who worked there passed away, and nobody will take his job. Nobody's in there, but the light still shines from time to time. I thought that some kind of goblin must be responsible for that. The big lighthouse is to the north, but you have to take a long detour west to reach it.
Let's head south for that shard thing first, shall we?
Just another tower, bah.
(Ann) These are two monsters that aren't seen anywhere else. If there were other dimensions, these monsters wouldn't even exist there! The Wander Monk has traditional Cleric spells - Infernos, Heal, and Vivify. They can also cast Beat, somehow, though it's not on their natural spell list. Those douchebags. The Boohbahs... defy classification. They have LureDance, SleepHit, and Thermostat. And I have no idea what Thermostat does.
Another free heart! We're getting a lot of these... more than we can carry. I'll trim down the repeats and we'll do some reformations soon.
(Gordon) These knights have gone rogue! They have given up their defensive ways to study the art of *devastating attacks*. These guys do not mess around.
There's the chest! Let's get it!
Moon Messenger: I am the moon's messenger. I want to test your power. If your power is not great enough, you may not have the Moonshard...
(Clast) Just beefed up healers and mage slimes. Nothing new, just lots of HP and an incredibly irritating combat due to the healers'... healing. But we defeat them handily, and...
[high merchant's heart]
Less gemlike than anticipated, but still super cool.
Potentially Useful Wizard: Sorry, could you hand over the Moonshard?
The Moonshard? The treasure chest was empty!
Potentially Useful Wizard: What!? Impossible... Oh... somebody got to it before we did. No! It's over! My magic research is over! I didn't have the rent to pay for my house in the village of Tepah... If I don't pay it today, I have to leave...
Want to roll with us?
Potentially Useful Wizard: Would that be okay?
Wizards are pretty cool. Sure.
Potentially Useful Wizard: Ooh... I can't go home, and now I have to rely on the sympathy of children? My name is Zenon. I'll do whatever I can. Thank you.
You're not actually useful - Alissa does the same thing at a lower weight, and their damage isn't that great. so we'll be kicking you back out.
Potentially Useful Wizard: Well, then. Here! Have my heart!
Well, if the gem isn't here, where is it?
Helpful Old Man From Earlier posted:
A while ago, some Merchants headed to the tower.
Good! Now, we need to determine how to reform you guys with all of these hearts we have lying around.
